A Definition of a Hot Mess.

bitchplease!
EDIT: Further down, I added a video of Britney Spears' performance from 2000, just in case you think I'm being too hard on her. She has the capability- it's just scary how fast the mighty can fall to normalcy.

Get back to Kentucky and raise those kids, girl. Good gracious. Honestly, I don't think her body looked bad(no, I don't care if she's had two kids or not- she walks around wearing tops as dresses without panties, and besides, it's her JOB to be in shape and perform well), but she looked as if she'd taken a lot of Xanax or summat beforehand, and stumbled around onstage looking bored and blank.

Overall- her comeback was a comedown, and since I did think she was an excellent stage performer, this was a huge disappointment. This morning, we looked at the opening sentences of the reports from the world's top news agencies.

From Yahoo/AP: "Somewhere, Kevin Federline is laughing. An out-of-shape, out-of-touch Britney Spears delivered what was destined to be the most talked about performance of the MTV Video Music Awards -- but for all the wrong reasons."

From CNN: "As in most train wrecks, it was hard to focus on just one thing as the Britney Spears disaster unfolded. There was just so much that went wrong."

Britney's 2000 VMA Performance

Please compare and contrast. I know 7 years has passed. We all looked better at 18 (actually, I may look better at 25). But still.

I honestly haven't watched an MTV Video Music Awards show since I was still living in a college dorm room, which is over 4 years ago- and I know why. It's gone from being a tongue in cheek version of a proper awards show to being complete self regarding nonsense. From Britney, to Sarah Silverman (who was unfortunately severely unfunny), to more egotistical and embarrassing rants from Kanye West, to the stupid tables on the main set, and the seizure inducing "party shots"- the whole show was poorly produced, poorly executed, and just abismal.

The good things: Chris Brown, hands down. Alicia Keys was FIERCE. Justin Timberlake's plea for MTV to play music videos again was truly "Justified". Looking at Rihanna made me swear off eating for the next month. Kid Rock and Tommy Lee got into a knock down, drag out fight in the middle of the show ("Please, stop the white-on-white violence"-Jamie Foxx).

Watch it all right here.

That's it. I could find nothing else. I got incredibly bored, and flipped back and forth between MTV and a special on the History channel about the beginnings of Islamic Brotherhood, so maybe I missed some other flashes of brilliance.

Let's start our own music channel, folks.

C'mon now.
